Eating a healthy as well as a nutrient rich and balanced diet is a very vital part of remaining healthy and maintaining a good and fit body. But eating healthy can be a tricky job especially when you need to concentrate and rethink everything that you eat or drink. 1. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables

This is definitely the most important tip there is for a healthy diet. It is recommended that a person must eat about 2-3 servings of fruits everyday and about 5-6 servings of vegetables so as to remain fit and healthy. You can also have glasses of unsweetened fruit or vegetable juices if you do not like them in raw form.

2. Eat more fish

Fish is one of the best sources of protein and has got many of the important vitamins and minerals which are required by a person. You aim must be to eat atleast 2 portions of fish in a week and out of these two portions, one must be of oily fish.

3. Cut back on saturated fat and sugar content

At is an important part of diet but what must be avoided is the amount of saturated fat we have. The excess of saturated fat can increase the level of cholesterol in the blood which can lead to heart problems. Even the sugar content must also be controlled.

4. Consume less salt

Salt is already present in most of the food we eat or buy and thus we must avoid adding extra salt as it can raise the blood pressure level.

5. Try and base your meals on starchy food items

It is said that starchy food items must make for one third of the food we eat and therefore try and include foods like potatoes, cereals, rice, bread and pasta in the diet.

6. Don’t make yourself go thirsty

Make it a point to drink about 1.2 litres of water every day.

7. Don’t skip meals and especially breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and must not be skipped at any cost. Infact no other meal of the day should also be missed.

8. Get active and indulge in physical exercises

Try and avoid being overweight by working out and indulging in physical work. Make it a point to keep yourself as active as possible.
